Taking a leave of absence

Taking time away from work—whether for business, pleasure, health or family needs, service to our nation or some other occasion—requires careful planning. Because there are many reasons you may need time away, there are many leave options and policies.

Adobe Paid Parental Leave

Adobe offers additional parental leave benefits to eligible employees to supplement the parental leave provided under UK law. This enables employees to take more time to bond with their child before returning to work.

The Adobe parental leave available to you falls into two categories: Primary Caregiver Leave and Non-Primary Caregiver leave.

Adobe Paid Primary Caregiver Parental Leave

Adobe offers up to 26 weeks of Paid Primary Caregiver Parental Leave, paid at 100% of your base salary (or 100% of Total Target Compensation for commissioned employees). This is inclusive of any statutory or company-enhanced pay you may otherwise be eligible to receive.

You are eligible for Adobe Paid Primary Caregiver Parental Leave if:

  • You have at least 26 weeks of continuous employment with Adobe;
  • You’ve certified that you will be the Primary Caregiver;
  • Your partner is not designated as a Primary Caregiver (other than during any period of Compulsory Maternity Leave);
  • You have started, or will have started, a period of Statutory Maternity, Paternity, or Adoption Leave by the time you become the Primary Caregiver; and
  • You have not received or applied for Adobe Paid Non-Primary Caregiver Parental Leave.

A Primary Caregiver is the parent who takes primary responsibility for care of his or her child during the typical Adobe work hours. Only one parent can be designated as a Primary Caregiver for each birth or adoption (including multiple births or adoptions).

Review the UK Parental Leave Policy [PDF] and UK Parental Leave FAQ [PDF] for more information, including how to apply for leave. When you're ready to apply, please fill out the applying for parental leave [PDF] checklist.

Adobe Paid Non-Primary Caregiver Leave

Adobe offers up to 4 weeks of Paid Primary Non-Caregiver Parental Leave, paid at 100% of your base salary (or 100% of Total Target Compensation for commissioned employees). This is inclusive of any statutory or company-enhanced pay you may be eligible to receive. In other words, this pay is a top-up to any statutory pay you are eligible to receive.

You are eligible for Paid Non-Primary Caregiver Parental Leave if:

  • You are not the designated Primary Caregiver of a newborn or recently adopted child;
  • You have previously received Adobe Paid Primary Caregiver Parental Leave;
  • You have 26 weeks continuous employment with Adobe; and
  • You have started a period of Statutory Maternity, Paternity or Adoption Leave.

Unpaid Parental Leave

Take up to 18 weeks of unpaid time to take care of your child(ren), up to their 18th birthday. If both parents work for Adobe, each parent can take up to 4 weeks of leave per child per year (unless Adobe agrees otherwise). You must take parental leave in week-long increments (e.g., 1 week or 2 weeks), rather than individual days—unless your manager agrees otherwise.

You’re eligible if:

  • You’ve been with Adobe for more than a year
  • You’re named on the child’s birth or adoption certificate
  • You have or expect to have parental responsibility
  • You’re not self-employed or a “worker,” such as an agency worker or contractor
  • You’re not a foster parent (unless you’ve secured parental responsibility through the courts)
  • Your child is under 18 years old

Female Adobe employees who use this leave are choosing to opt out of Adobe Maternity Leave benefits.
