Adobe provides income protection cover of up to 75% of your base salary if you are absent from work for 26 weeks or more due to illness, accident, or injury. Benefits would be reduced by any amount of state benefit that is payable.
Who’s eligible
Adobe regular employees are covered upon joining Adobe, provided they are not within 26 weeks of their 65th birthday or state pension age, if higher. Adobe-paid temps and interns are not covered by income protection insurance.
Eligible employees will be automatically enrolled in the plan on the date of hire, provided they are actively at work in their normal occupation. Being actively at work means you:
- Have not received medical advice to refrain from work and are actively following your normal occupation
- Are working your normal number of hours required by your contract of employment, either at your normal business address or at a location to which you are required to travel for business
If you are not actively at work, cover will commence from the day you return to full-time active employment. You may be contacted by the insurer if further medical evidence is required.
What’s covered?
You could be eligible to receive up to 75% of your salary each month (less an offset of twice the state disability benefit) if you’re absent from work for six months (26 weeks) or more.
The benefit is payable after 26 weeks of continuous absence from work due to illness or injury, once you have provided medical evidence and the insurer has accepted the claim.
Upon approval by the insurer, the benefit will be paid until you either return to work, reach the state pension age or leave employment, whichever occurs first. Payments are subject to the insurer’s terms and conditions and regular medical reviews.
Benefits are paid to you by Adobe and are treated as salary and, therefore, are subject to the normal statutory deductions, such as income tax, as well as any pension fund contributions that may be payable.
Important notes
The benefit would not normally be paid if the disability arises due to any of the following:
- If caused directly or indirectly by any war, invasion, act of foreign enemy, hostilities (whether war be declared or not), civil war, rebellion, revolution, insurrection, riot, civil commotion, or military or usurped power
- From wilfully self-inflicted injury or illness
- In the opinion of the insurer, is directly or indirectly due to or from an acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) or infection by any human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)
- If engaged in a sport or other activity which, in the opinion and at the discretion of the insurer (whose decision is final), is deemed hazardous
Special terms may apply for any pre-existing medical condition that may exist. You will be notified if this applies in your case.
