Commuter benefits

Adobe can help you save on your commute if you’d like to bike to work or travel via public transportation.

Cycle to Work

The Cycle to Work plan has been developed to promote healthier journeys to work and reduce environmental pollution. The plan allows employees to purchase a bike and safety equipment worth up to €1,250 for a normal bike and up to €1,500 for an electric bike in a tax-efficient way via 12-month salary sacrifice.

Who’s eligible?

Adobe regular employees, Adobe-paid temps, and interns employed for a minimum period of 12 months are eligible to participate.

How does it work?

The purchase is made through an arrangement between you and Adobe called salary sacrifice. You agree to forego part of your salary to cover the costs associated with the purchase of the bicycle and safety equipment for a 12-month period. By doing so, you will not be liable to tax or PRSI or levies on the salary forgone. In addition, the salary sacrifice does not allow you to exchange the benefit for cash, and you are only eligible for this arrangement once in a five-year period.

Ready to get started?

Go to Tax Free Bicycles, and choose a cycle shop to purchase your bicycle and equipment. Tax Free Bicycles are the leading distributor of bicycles in Ireland and guarantee a large selection of brands.

To request your voucher, visit My Adobe Benefits.

  1. Go to Benefits Selection > Cycle to work > Select.
  2. Select the type of bike you would like to purchase: regular or electric.
  3. Select the value of the bike and equipment you require. This amount will be your voucher value. Note that the voucher value cannot be altered if you subsequently choose a bike and equipment which costs less than the value of your voucher.
  4. Select Add to cart > Checkout > Confirm selection.

A confirmation message should pop up if you’ve successfully submitted your selections.

  • At the end of the enrolment window, Darwin will contact Tax Free Bicycles to notify them of the voucher you have selected (your selection will be processed at payroll cut-off date and may take up to four weeks).
  • Tax Free Bicycles will then send you a voucher or certificate, so you can collect your bike.
  • Salary deductions will commence the month after you receive your bike and will continue for a 12-month period or until you have repaid the cost of the bike.

Cycle to work FAQs

What qualifies for reimbursement and tax exemption under the plan?

Pedal bicycles and tricycles, and pedelecs (electrically assisted bicycles that require some effort on the part of the cyclist to effect propulsion). It will not cover motorbikes, scooters, or mopeds.

The following safety equipment will be covered by the exemption:

  • Cycle helmets that conform to European Standard EN 1078
  • Bells and bulb horns
  • Lights, including dynamo packs
  • Mirrors and mudguards
  • Cycle clips and dress guards
  • Panniers, luggage carriers, and straps to allow luggage to be safely carried
  • Locks and chains to ensure the cycle can be safely secured
  • Pumps, puncture repair kits, cycle tool kits, and tyre sealant to allow for minor repairs
  • Reflective clothing along with front reflectors and spoke reflectors

Will the exemption apply to the purchase of bicycle parts?

No. The exemption only applies to expenditures incurred in the purchase of a whole bicycle or associated safety equipment.

Is there any minimum threshold on the amount of days a bicycle must be used?

No. However, the bicycle must be used mainly for qualifying journeys (i.e., travelling to and from work or between workplaces). While Adobe will not be required to monitor the use of the bicycle and safety equipment, employees will be required to sign a statement (as part of the application process) confirming the bicycle is for their own use and will be used mainly for qualifying journeys.
