Sick time

Paid sick leave is provided to all Adobe employees in alignment with local laws.

During the employment probationary period, Adobe will pay statutory sick leave if the employee is eligible. After successful completion of the probationary period, employees will be eligible to receive Company Sick Pay. For details, review the Ireland Sickness Absence Policy [PDF].

Sick time pay

You may receive 100% of base salary (less statutory sick pay) for the first six months in any rolling 12-month period.

For a continuous absence of 26 weeks or longer, you may be eligible to receive certain benefits under the income protection plan, subject to such a claim being approved and in force. Learn more about the income protection plan.

Taking sick time off

To take time off due to an illness, please contact your manager before 9.30 a.m. on the day you are ill to notify them that you are sick and to tell them when you hope to return to work. You must repeat this every morning if your illness continues. If your absence is pre-planned and already approved (e.g., scheduled surgery), you do not need to contact your manager daily.

If your illness lasts longer than three calendar days in a row, including non-working days, you must consult your doctor and obtain a medical certificate stating the reason for your absence from work.

Send a copy of your medical certificate by submitting a request via the Support Centre. Subsequently, a doctor's certificate must be sent at weekly intervals or more frequent intervals if deemed appropriate by your doctor. Adobe may ask for you to produce a medical certificate covering all or part of your absence even if your absence is three days in a row or less.

Sick time is not an accrued benefit and will not be paid out if it’s not used. If you can access Workday, please mark the days you are sick (see instructions).

Sick time FAQs

What do I need to do if I’m having surgery?

The normal sickness process applies in this situation and will depend on the length of time you will be off work. Please inform your manager of the dates you will be off work and ensure that you keep them up to date with any changes. In Workday, mark the days you will be off. Email a copy of the fit note to your manager, and submit a request via the Support Centre. Deliver the original medical certificate in the ERC Mailbox by the fifth day of the following month.

If you feel you need any adjustments (e.g., an ergonomic assessment or phased hours) on your return to work, please submit a request via the Support Centre.

How do I claim for benefits from the Department of Social, Community, and Family Affairs?

You must apply for Illness Benefit within six weeks of becoming ill. No payment is made for the first six days of illness, which are known as waiting days (Sunday is not counted as a waiting day). The only time that the six waiting days are not applied is if you were receiving other social welfare payments within three days of the start of your illness.

What if I do not qualify for the Department of Social, Community, and Family Affairs benefit?

Whether you qualify for payment or not, you should always submit a claim for Illness Benefit when you are certified unfit for work. You may be entitled to Pay Related Social Insurance (PRSI) credited contributions for each week you are ill, and these could help you qualify for future social welfare payments.

What if I am referred to Occupational Health?

At any time, whether you are absent from work or not, Adobe may require you to undergo an independent medical examination by its Occupational Health advisers or by a medical practitioner approved by Adobe. This will be paid for by Adobe.

You will be asked to agree that any report that is produced following this consultation may be disclosed to Adobe. Such reports will be kept confidential. If an employee refuses to be examined by an Adobe-approved doctor or for the report to be disclosed to the Company, the Company may require the employee to contribute to the cost of the missed appointment(s) and/or withhold Adobe Company Sick Time Pay.

Employees who return to work while still sick may be sent to their doctor to be cleared as ‘fit for work’ or be required to be examined by an Adobe-approved doctor.

What happens to my benefits while I’m on a long-term continuous absence?

For a continuous absence of 26 weeks or longer, employees may be eligible to receive certain benefits under the income protection plan, subject to such a plan being approved and in force.

Other Adobe insurance benefits, including medical expenses insurance, would cease on the earlier of 30 days after the conclusion of the income protection application process or after 12 months of absence, whichever comes first.

After 26 weeks of continuous absence, employees will be required to return all Company property to Adobe if they have not already done so.
