Taking a leave of absence

Taking time away from work—whether for business, pleasure, health or family needs, service to our nation or some other occasion—requires careful planning. Just like there are many types of life situations, there are many leave options and policies as well.

Each program has its own rules for eligibility and use. You can use the links below to select the appropriate leave program(s) for you, and the actions needed to make your time away (and your transition back to work) go as smoothly as possible.

Medical leave

Request a Medical Leave for an illness, surgery or other medical event that will keep you away from work for an extended period of time. You can take up to 12 months off. Your manager and Business Partner will need to approve the leave.

You must have a certificate from a registered medical practitioner for this leave to be approved.

When you’re ready to return to work, have your doctor prepare a statement that says you’re healthy enough to come back to work. You will need to give this to your manager.

Personal leave

Take up to one year off to pursue educational opportunities, enjoy an extended vacation or attend to other personal reasons. However, this time away is unpaid, and Adobe can’t guarantee your job or a similar one will be waiting for you when you’re ready to return. You’re eligible for this leave if you’ve been with Adobe for more than one year.

This time away needs to be discussed with and approved by your manager and the Employee Resource Center.
