Expenses can mount when you or a family member is ill or injured. In addition to your share of your medical bills, you may have expenses for child care, rides, meal delivery, or help with chores.
That’s when this optional insurance can come in handy—especially since these MetLife plans pay you cash that you can use however you want.
Here’s what the plans have in common:
- You receive cash for eligible claims, paid directly to you. You can use the money for whatever you want.
- You pay 100% of the plan cost through after-tax paycheck deductions. That means you won’t pay taxes on the money you receive when you file a claim.
- Coverage is guaranteed for all three plans—no medical questions asked.
- You can enroll only as a new hire, during Open Enrollment, or if you have a qualifying life event during the year. You can also enroll your spouse or domestic partner and your children up to age 26.
- You must already be enrolled in a plan to receive benefits for a covered health event.
- The plans include wellness incentives that can allow you to get paid for completing preventive screenings.
- You can keep your plans if you leave Adobe.

This plan pays you a lump sum if you or a covered family member is diagnosed with any covered illness, including certain cancers, stroke, heart attack, organ transplant, renal failure, or other major health event.

You pay the full cost of critical illness insurance. The cost is based on your age, regardless of the ages of the dependents you cover.

The plan pays you money when you or a covered family member is hospitalized for a covered accident, illness, childbirth, substance use, or mental health treatment.
The plan pays a lump-sum benefit for hospitalization—plus a daily amount for each day of your hospital stay. It also pays additional amounts for inpatient rehabilitation or if you’re confined to an intensive care unit.
